Nikifor Ilyich Biganenko was born on June 23, 1914 in the of Pleskachovka, Smelyansky District, Cherkasy Region, into a .
In 1935 he graduated from the workers’ school. He studied at the Melitopol Pedagogical School.
In 1935, Nikifor Ilyich Biganenko was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and in 1937 he graduated from the Kiev Artillery School.
Since June 1941 he took part in battles on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In 1942 he joined the ranks of the CPSU (b).
Commanding the 124th Guards Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Biganenko distinguished himself during the Berlin offensive. From April 16 to May 2, 1945, the under the command of Biganenko destroyed six tanks, eleven assault guns, twenty guns and mortars, five rocket launchers, fourteen bunkers and dugouts, and hundreds of enemy soldiers and officers. Biganenko himself was wounded, but continued to command the regiment.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, Lieutenant Colonel Nikifor Ilyich Biganenko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 7378) for exemplary command of the regiment and the personal courage and heroism shown at the same time.
With the end of the war, Nikifor Ilyich Biganenko continued to serve in the army. In 1960, he graduated from courses at the Military Artillery Command Academy, in 1965 – from the Frunze Military Academy.
He was a deputy of the of the USSR of the 2nd and 3rd convocations.
In 1970, Major General Nikifor Ilyich Biganenko retired. He died on June 27, 1977 in Kiev. He was buried at the Lukyanovskoye military cemetery.
